After completing these assignments I have a much deeper understanding of the nurse’s contribution to ethical conduct of research and implementation of research findings than I did prior. All in all, these assignments have reaffirmed what I already knew to be true. This is especially true through the lens of nurses working through the Tuskegee Syphilis Study, particularly Nurse Evers. The doctor didn’t even say what they were doing or provide written consent to anyone until after they had already started pricking peoples fingers. The nurse explained it in terms everyone understands; this just goes to show how impactful nurses are. It’s important to know how the impacts of historical evolution and principles research ethics have impacted the trust that multiple populations, particularly trust in the government. The lasting impacts can have generational impacts of distrust in medicine. The achievement of the course objectives contribute to my ability to participate in research quite honestly because last time I had an undergraduate research position we had to send in a copy of our CITI certification basic courses.
